Pan-Tilt vs Fixed Wi-Fi Camera: Which One for Home or Shop?
Short answer: pick a fixed Wi-Fi camera when you need to watch one spot all the time, such as a gate, a cash counter or a parking space, because it never turns away; our CP Plus CP-V48A fixed bullet costs ₹2,899. Pick a pan-tilt Wi-Fi camera when one camera has to cover a whole room, shop floor or courtyard and you want to look around from the app; ours cost ₹3,499 to ₹3,999. Prices are live website prices, include GST, and delivery across India is free.
Our CCTV camera buying guide explains Wi-Fi vs wired, resolution and storage. This page answers one narrower question that buyers ask us every week: should the camera move, or stay still?
What is the difference between a pan-tilt and a fixed camera?
A fixed camera points in one direction. What it sees on day one is what it sees every day. A pan-tilt (PT) camera has small motors that turn the lens left and right (pan) and up and down (tilt). From the phone app you can swipe to look around, save favourite positions, and on many models let the camera follow a moving person by itself.
The trade-off is simple. A pan-tilt camera can see much more area in total, but only one part of it at any moment. A fixed camera sees less, but sees it all the time.

Choose a fixed camera if…
- One spot matters most. The cash counter, the main gate, the shutter, the car in the porch. A pan-tilt camera could be looking the other way at the exact moment something happens there.
- You want recordings you can rely on later. A fixed view gives a steady, comparable picture every day, which is easier to review.
- The area is narrow and long, like a corridor, a side lane or a driveway, where there is nothing to pan towards.
- You want the lowest price per view. At ₹2,899, the CP-V48A is the lowest-priced Wi-Fi camera in this comparison.
Choose a pan-tilt camera if…
- One camera must cover a big room. A living room, a shop floor, a small godown or an open courtyard. Placed in a corner, a 345° to 352° pan covers almost the full room.
- You want to look around from the app. Checking on parents, pets or staff is easier when you can turn the camera to where they are.
- You want it to follow movement. The CP-Z43Q lists motion tracking, and both Trueview models list smart tracking, so the camera turns to follow a person it detects.
- You need a few saved views. The Trueview models list 6 preset points, so one tap sends the camera to the door, the counter or the stairs.
Which is better for a shop, and which for a home?
Shop: use a fixed camera on the counter and the entrance, because those views must never be missed. Add a pan-tilt camera to watch the floor and the stock area, where looking around helps more than a fixed angle. Our shop and showroom security checklist lists the other pieces worth adding.
Home: a pan-tilt camera in the living room or a parent's room is ideal for checking in from the office. For the gate or the parking area, a fixed outdoor camera is safer, because you want the gate in view at 2 am, not the garden.
Many homes and shops end up with one of each. That pair often costs less than two pan-tilt cameras and covers both needs.
Things to know before buying a pan-tilt camera
- It has a blind side. Whatever the camera is not facing is not being recorded. Set a home position it returns to, pointed at the most important area.
- Digital zoom is not optical zoom. The Trueview models list 10x digital zoom, which enlarges part of the picture. Detail gets softer the further you zoom.
- Check the power. The CP-Z43Q lists DC 5 V, 1 A over USB, so plan a socket nearby and protect outdoor connections from rain.
- Check the Wi-Fi band. The CP-Z43Q lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Test the signal where the camera will go before mounting it.
- Use the right mount. Outdoors, choose an IP65 model such as the CP-Z43Q or T18290S, and fix it under a sunshade if possible.

FAQ
Is a pan-tilt camera better than a fixed camera?
Not always. Pan-tilt covers more area with one camera, but only one direction at a time. For a gate or cash counter that must always be in view, a fixed camera is the better choice.
Can a pan-tilt camera follow a person automatically?
Many can. The CP Plus CP-Z43Q lists motion tracking, and the Trueview T18290S and T18296S list smart tracking with human detection.
Which pan-tilt camera can go outdoors?
Choose one with a weather rating. The CP-Z43Q and Trueview T18290S both list IP65. The Trueview T18296S does not list a rating, so use it indoors.
How much storage do these Wi-Fi cameras take?
The CP-Z43Q, T18290S and T18296S list micro SD cards up to 256 GB. The Trueview models also list optional cloud storage.
Do pan-tilt cameras record while moving?
Yes, they keep recording while they turn, but they only record what is in front of the lens at that moment. Set a home position for when no one is controlling it.
What is the cheapest Wi-Fi camera you sell?
