SGM-370 sliding gate motor with single beam sensor and remotes

SGM-370 vs SGM-550: Which Sliding Gate Motor Should You Buy?

Short answer: pick the SGM-370 (₹22,500) if your sliding gate is clearly under 600 kg, which covers most house gates. Pick the SGM-550 (₹25,500) if the gate is heavier, close to 600 kg, or you are not sure of its weight: it is rated for 1200 kg and costs only ₹3,000 more. The two motors share the same body, supply, protection and box contents; the motor power and the rated gate weight are what differ. One more option exists only for the smaller motor: the SGM-370 with single beam sensor, without gear rack at ₹23,500, which puts the safety beam in the box for ₹1,000 more than the plain motor.

What is actually different between them?

Only two things: a 550 W motor instead of 370 W, and a rated gate weight of 1200 kg instead of 600 kg. Both listings give the same motor speed (1400 r/min) and the same 30:1 reduction, and neither states a gate travel speed, so do not expect one to open the gate noticeably faster than the other. The extra power in the SGM-550 goes into moving more weight, not into speed.

Because the body is the same, the two motors fit the same base plate footprint, take the same GR-12M gear rack (₹1,399 per metre) and work with the same accessories: the RM-SGM remote (₹1,249), the WFC-SGM Wi-Fi module (₹1,849) and the replacement cover cap, which is listed for both the 370 W and 550 W models.

How heavy is my gate?

This is the question that decides it. The best source is your fabricator, who knows the pipes and sheet used. If you need a rough figure yourself:

  • Sheet cladding: mild steel weighs about 7.85 kg per square metre for every 1 mm of thickness. A gate 4 m long and 1.8 m high has 7.2 square metres of face. Clad fully in 2 mm sheet, the sheet alone is about 113 kg.
  • Frame and bars: add the frame, the vertical bars, the bottom channel, the wheels and any decorative work. On a solid or heavily designed gate these often weigh more than the sheet.
  • Wicket gate and cladding upgrades: a small door built into the main gate, wooden or HPL panels, or thick decorative castings all add weight.

A light, open-bar gate of 4 to 5 metres is usually comfortably within the SGM-370's 600 kg rating. A long, fully clad gate at a kothi, farmhouse or showroom can pass 600 kg easily, and that is where the SGM-550 belongs.

Choose the SGM-370 if...

  • Your fabricator gives a weight comfortably below 600 kg, with room to spare.
  • The gate is a typical house gate with an open grill or partial cladding.
  • The gate slides easily by hand on a clean, straight track.
  • You want the lowest price for a correctly sized motor, or the version with the safety beam in the box (₹23,500).

Choose the SGM-550 if...

  • The gate weighs 500 kg or more, or nobody can tell you its weight with confidence.
  • It is long and fully clad, has a wicket door, or catches a lot of wind.
  • The track is old or uneven and the gate feels stiff in places, even after servicing.
  • You may add cladding later. The ₹3,000 difference is small next to replacing an overloaded motor.

If your gate is heavier than 1200 kg, look at the SGM-750 (1500 kg, ₹32,500) and the SGM-1200 (2000 kg, ₹35,000), compared in our SGM-750 vs SGM-1200 guide.

Our gear rack guide shows how to measure, and the Gate Builder picks the motor and rack from your gate weight and length. FAQ

Which is better, the SGM-370 or the SGM-550?

Neither is better in general; they suit different gate weights. The SGM-370 is rated up to 600 kg and the SGM-550 up to 1200 kg, with the same body, supply and protection.

Is the SGM-550 faster than the SGM-370?

Both listings give the same 1400 r/min motor speed and 30:1 reduction, and neither states a gate speed. The extra power of the SGM-550 is for heavier gates.

Can I use the SGM-370 on a 600 kg gate?

600 kg is its maximum rating. Leave a margin for wind, track wear and future cladding; for a gate near that weight, the SGM-550 at ₹3,000 more is the safer choice.

Do both motors come with remotes?

Yes. Each comes with 2 remotes, limit switches, 2 keys to release the motor by hand and a mounting base plate. Extra RM-SGM remotes cost ₹1,249.

Can both work with a Wi-Fi module?

Yes. Both listings say the Wi-Fi PCB is bought separately. The WFC-SGM Wi-Fi module (₹1,849) works with the Smart Life app on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
