SGM series heavy duty sliding gate motor with remotes

SGM-750 vs SGM-1200: Motors for Heavy Sliding Gates up to 2000 kg

Short answer: choose the SGM-750 (₹32,500) for heavy sliding gates comfortably under 1500 kg, such as most society, school and factory gates. Choose the SGM-1200 (₹35,000) for gates near or above 1500 kg, up to its 2000 kg rating, or for a heavy gate that opens many times a day. The difference is ₹2,500, so when the weight is uncertain the bigger motor is cheap insurance. Prices are our live website prices, include GST, and delivery across India is free.

The SGM-750 listing describes it for residential, commercial and industrial sliding gates, including factories, warehouses and parking entrances, and says plainly that it is not for swing gates. Both are motor-only listings; neither comes as a kit with rails.

What changes when a gate is this heavy?

A gate of 1000 kg or more behaves differently from a house gate, and it is worth planning for that before you choose the motor.

  • Starting and stopping take more effort. Getting a tonne of steel moving, and stopping it at the limit, puts the most load on the motor and the gear rack. A motor that is near its limit works hard at every start.
  • Heat builds up with traffic. Both motors have thermal protection in the winding at about 125 degrees C, which cuts the motor out before it is damaged. On a busy society or factory gate that cycles all day, a motor with headroom runs cooler and is less likely to pause on a hot afternoon.
  • The track matters more. A heavy gate on worn wheels or a bent track can need far more force than its weight suggests. Get the gate rolling freely by hand first.
  • Manual release is harder. Both motors release with the supplied keys in a power cut, but pushing 1500 kg by hand needs two people on a good track. Plan your power backup accordingly.
  • The rack takes more load. For a heavy gate, many buyers choose the 12 mm GR-12M galvanised iron rack (₹1,399 per metre); its listing notes that rail supplied with motors is generally 8 mm.

Choose the SGM-750 if...

  • Your fabricator puts the gate comfortably below 1500 kg, for example 1000 to 1200 kg.
  • The gate opens a moderate number of times a day: a school, a bungalow with a long gate, a small factory.
  • The track and wheels are in good condition and the gate rolls easily by hand.

Choose the SGM-1200 if...

  • The gate is near or above 1500 kg, up to 2000 kg.
  • Nobody can give you a reliable weight for a large, fully clad gate.
  • The gate is a busy society, warehouse or factory entrance that opens many times an hour.
  • It is very long, solid and exposed to wind.

For gates under 1200 kg, the SGM-370 and SGM-550 are cheaper and come in ready kits; see our SGM-370 vs SGM-550 comparison.

What a complete heavy gate setup costs

Neither motor includes gear rack or a safety beam, so budget the full setup. Here are two worked examples with live prices.

Item 8 m factory gate, about 1200 kg 10 m society gate, about 1700 kg
Motor SGM-750: ₹32,500 SGM-1200: ₹35,000
GR-12M gear rack, ₹1,399 per metre 8 m: ₹11,192 10 m: ₹13,990
SB-10 safety beam pair ₹799 ₹799
SF-2T warning light ₹850 ₹850
Extra RM-SGM remotes, ₹1,249 each 2: ₹2,498 4: ₹4,996
Total ₹47,839 ₹55,635

The quantities are assumptions: rack equal to the gate length rounded up, one beam pair, one warning light, and extra remotes for guards or staff on top of the 2 in the box. Our gear rack guide explains how to measure. Installation, cable and the concrete base are not included.

Useful add-ons for a busy gate

FAQ

Which motor do I need for a 1500 kg sliding gate?

The SGM-750 is rated up to 1500 kg, so a gate at that weight is at its limit. Choose the SGM-1200, rated up to 2000 kg, for ₹2,500 more.

Do the SGM-750 and SGM-1200 need three-phase power?

No. Both listings give a 220 V AC 50 Hz supply, the normal single-phase supply in Indian homes and buildings.

Is gear rack included with the SGM-750 or SGM-1200?

No. Both listings say gear rack, photocell sensor and Wi-Fi PCB are bought separately. GR-12M rack costs ₹1,399 per metre.

Can I open a heavy gate by hand in a power cut?

Yes. Both motors release with the 2 supplied keys so the gate can be moved by hand. On a very heavy gate this needs a good track and often two people.

Can the SGM-750 be used on a swing gate?

No. Its listing says it is designed for sliding gates and is not suitable for swing gates. Hinged gates need a swing opener, such as an arm or rolling operator.
