Access Control for Double Doors: 1200 lbs EM Locks and Kits

Short answer: a double door needs a lock on each leaf. The simplest choice is a 1200 lbs double-leaf EM lock, one long body with two magnets that holds both leaves at 600 lbs each; on our store the EMDL-1202 costs ₹2,500, and a complete double-door kit with it is ₹6,950. Frameless glass double doors use two glass door locks instead, with kits from ₹7,350 to ₹10,950.

What lock does a double door need?

A single door has a fixed frame on the lock side for the magnet or bolt to meet. A double door does not: the two leaves meet in the middle. So each leaf needs its own holding point. You have four practical ways to do it:

• One double-leaf EM lock. A single long magnet body fixed to the top frame across the meeting point, with one steel plate on each leaf. One cable, one connection. This is what the EMDL-1202 is.
• Two single EM locks. A 600 lbs lock above each leaf, such as two EM-602 locks. Useful when the header is uneven or the leaves are different widths.
• Two frameless glass door locks. For all-glass double doors that swing both ways, a lock such as the DBFG-05 on each leaf.
• Two drop bolts. Hidden bolts in the top frame, with U brackets on glass leaves.

Is a 1200 lbs double-leaf lock twice as strong?

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. The EMDL-1202 listing states a combined holding force of about 280 kg × 2, or 560 kg (1200 lbs), shared between the two leaves. Each leaf is held at 280 kg, the same as a 600 lbs single lock. That is plenty for normal office, showroom and society doors.

If you need 1200 lbs on each leaf, for a heavy main entrance or a server room, fit two EMSL-1202 single-leaf locks (2 × ₹3,499 = ₹6,998) instead.

What does the EMDL-1202 listing say?

• 2-wire double-leaf lock for double swing doors, 12 V DC.
• Body 500 × 48.5 × 26.5 mm; each armature plate 180 × 38 × 11.55 mm.
• Aluminium alloy body with hard anodised finish, LED indication, fail-safe locking.
• Suits wooden, metal, glass and fireproof double doors.
• Works with access control systems, remotes and building intercoms.

How do you fit access control on a double door?

1. Decide if both leaves are used daily. If one leaf stays bolted shut with tower bolts most of the time, you can treat the door as a single door and fit a 600 lbs lock on the active leaf only. If both leaves open every day, lock both.
2. Check the header. The top frame needs a flat run of at least 500 mm across the centre for the EMDL-1202 body. If the doors open towards you on the lock side, each leaf needs its own bracket set; see the EM lock bracket guide.
3. Fit one plate per leaf. Each armature plate sits on its own leaf, lined up with its half of the magnet, slightly loose on its bolt so it can sit flat.
4. Use one reader and one exit switch. Both leaves release together from the same relay, so one card reader outside and one exit button inside are enough. Two single locks are wired in parallel on the same output.
5. Size the power supply for both locks. Add the current of both locks and keep it within the supply's rating. A double-leaf lock is a single load.
6. Fit closers on both leaves. If one leaf does not shut fully, its half of the lock cannot hold.

Double door locks and kits with prices

Building a double door yourself with two EM-602 locks, a WP-25 keypad (₹3,400), a PK-80 supply (₹1,450) and a PSW-44 button (₹217) comes to ₹8,065. The Combo-CN69 kit at ₹6,950 is cheaper if a double-leaf lock suits your header. Combo-CN69, Combo-CN261 and Combo-CN204 have limited stock, so check availability.

Which option should you choose?

• Wooden or aluminium double door, office or society: Combo-CN69 (₹6,950) with the EMDL-1202.
• All-glass double door in a showroom or bank: Combo-CN261 (₹7,350), or Combo-CN74 (₹10,950) if the reader is outdoors.
• Double door where you prefer hidden bolts: Combo-CN224 (₹9,449).
• Heavy main entrance needing full strength per leaf: two EMSL-1202 locks (₹6,998 for the pair) with your choice of reader.
