PW-43 watch-style wireless SOS panic button for elderly people

Home Safety Devices for Elderly Parents: SOS Buttons, Smoke Alarms and Door Phones

Short answer: for parents living on their own, the most useful devices are an SOS button they can press from the bed, bathroom or wrist that calls your phone, smoke and gas alarms, and a video door phone so they can see who is outside before opening. Our list (a GSM alarm panel with smoke sensor, a watch-style SOS button, a wall SOS button, a second smoke sensor, a gas detector, an in-house loud call alarm, a video door phone, an extra wireless doorbell and a two-way talk camera) comes to about ₹23,700. All prices below are our live website prices, include GST, and delivery across India is free.

When children live in another city, the worry is simple: if something happens at 2 am, will anyone know? Every item below answers that question in a different way. Some alert people inside the house, some alert you on your phone, and some help your parents stay careful at the front door.

What do elderly parents need, and why?

  • An SOS button that reaches you. A loud siren helps only if someone hears it. The Combo-CN108 pairs the ACJ-400 Wi-Fi and GSM alarm panel with an SMK-43 wireless smoke sensor. The panel calls or messages preset numbers when a sensor or SOS button is triggered, so the call comes to you, a sibling and a neighbour.
  • A button they can wear. Falls often happen in the bathroom or at night. The PW-43 watch-style SOS button sits on the wrist, sends a 433 MHz signal to a compatible alarm panel and flashes a red LED when pressed. It runs on a CR2450 coin battery.
  • A button on the wall. For a parent who will not wear anything, fix a PS-43 SOS button next to the bed or the toilet seat.
  • Smoke and gas alarms. A forgotten pan or a loose gas pipe is a real risk. Smoke sensors on the panel trigger the same call to you. The Tuya Wi-Fi gas leak detector watches for LPG and natural gas, sounds locally and sends a notification to the Smart Life app on your phone.
  • A loud call alarm inside the house. The SRN-RM2 remote alarm kit runs on 220V AC with a 110 dB siren and 2 remotes. One parent can call the other from another room, or alert neighbours.
  • A video door phone. Parents should see who is at the gate before they open it. A 7-inch screen is easy for older eyes.

How does the SOS alert reach you?

  1. Your parent presses the watch button or the wall button.
  2. The button sends a 433 MHz radio signal to the ACJ-400 panel inside the house.
  3. The panel uses its SIM card (and Wi-Fi) to call or message the numbers you saved.
  4. You call back, or ask the neighbour on the list to check.

Save at least three numbers: yours, a sibling's and someone who lives nearby. Test the whole chain once a month by pressing the button with your parent while you are on a video call. Keep the SIM recharged. For more on how these panels work, read our Wi-Fi and GSM security alarm guide.

Where should each device go?

  • Wall SOS button: within reach from the bed, or next to the toilet seat. Not behind a curtain.
  • Smoke sensors: on the ceiling of the passage outside the bedrooms and in the living area. Not inside the kitchen, where cooking smoke causes false alarms.
  • Gas detector: in the kitchen, close to the cylinder or gas line as per its manual.
  • Video door phone screen: at standing height near the main door, where your parents usually sit or walk past.
  • Wireless doorbell receiver: in the bedroom, so a visitor is heard even with the door closed. The listing gives a range of up to 300 m, adjustable volume and an LED flash, which helps if hearing is weak.
  • Camera: in the living room only, with your parents' agreement. The T18290S has a built-in mic and speaker for full-duplex talk and sends phone notifications on human and motion detection.

FAQ

What is the best SOS device for elderly parents living alone?

A wearable SOS button linked to a GSM alarm panel, so a press calls your phone. Our pairing of the PW-43 watch button with the Combo-CN108 ACJ-400 kit costs ₹7,949 and also covers smoke.

Can an SOS button call my mobile phone?

Yes, when it is paired with a GSM alarm panel. The PW-43 and PS-43 send a 433 MHz signal to the panel, and the ACJ-400 calls or messages the numbers you saved using its SIM card.

Which smoke alarm is good for an elderly person's home?

One that alerts you as well as them. An SMK-43 smoke sensor on the ACJ-400 panel triggers the same phone call as the SOS button. Fit one outside the bedrooms and one in the living area.

Does the SOS button need Wi-Fi?

No. The buttons talk to the panel by radio, and the ACJ-400 can call over GSM, so alerts still go out if the home Wi-Fi is down. Keep the SIM recharged.

How can my parents see visitors before opening the door?

Fit a video door phone such as the Secureye S-VDP9 with a 7-inch screen. For hearing problems, add a DRB-43 wireless doorbell with LED flash in the bedroom.

How much does a home safety setup for elderly parents cost?

Our full list, including the GSM alarm, two SOS buttons, smoke and gas alarms, a call alarm, video door phone, extra doorbell and camera, costs ₹23,694 at current prices.
