HSR-1K hand-operated siren for school evacuation drills

School Security Checklist: Gates, Bells, Attendance, Cameras and Fire Safety

Short answer: a school should cover five areas: the gate (who comes in), bells and evacuation signals, staff attendance, cameras on entry and corridors, and fire safety. For a two-storey school with about 15 classrooms, the products in this checklist come to about ₹54,000 at our prices: a gate intercom, metal detector, automatic bell, face attendance terminal, four Wi-Fi cameras, a conventional fire alarm kit, four extinguishers and a hand-operated siren. All prices below are our live website prices, include GST, and delivery across India is free.

Use the checklist first, then the shopping list. Many schools already have some of these items, so tick what you have and buy only the gaps.

School security checklist: 12 points

  1. One controlled entry for visitors. Parents, vendors and visitors should pass the guard at one gate. Others stay locked during school hours.
  2. Gate-to-office intercom. The guard should be able to call the office before letting anyone in. An audio door phone with a 2-button outdoor unit rings two handsets, for example the office and the principal's room.
  3. A visitor register and a photo. A camera at the gate records every visitor's face and the time.
  4. Bag checks for events. A hand metal detector at the gate on annual days, exams and parent meetings.
  5. Automatic bells on a fixed schedule. A standalone bell timer rings periods, breaks and dispersal on time, with separate schedules for winter and exam days.
  6. A bell or hooter that every floor can hear. Add a second gong bell on the upper floor or a hooter for the playground.
  7. An evacuation signal that works without power. Fire and earthquake drills need a signal that is different from the period bell and works during a power cut. A hand-operated siren does both.
  8. Staff attendance with a time record. A face terminal records teacher and staff punch times and removes buddy punching.
  9. Cameras on gates, corridors and stairs. Never in toilets or changing rooms. Tell staff and parents where cameras are.
  10. A fire alarm with manual call points. A conventional panel with smoke detection, a manual call point and a hooter lets anyone raise the alarm.
  11. Fire extinguishers on every floor, plus the computer lab, science lab and kitchen or canteen.
  12. Drills and checks. Test bells, alarms and extinguisher pressure every term, and run at least one evacuation drill.

How does an automatic school bell work?

The CN158 timer is a standalone machine: you set the schedule on the unit itself, and no computer is needed. Its listing describes a 32-character display that shows the date, time and next bell, three modes (regular, winter and examination) and a weekly off setting. It switches any 220V AC bell, hooter or siren, so the second gong bell on the upper floor is wired to the same output. For timer types, bell sizes and MP3 bells, read our automatic school bell guide. If you prefer a hooter for the playground, the Combo-CN225 pairs the ASBS-01 bell controller with an SR-1K hooter of up to 1 km range for ₹5,999.

Why a hand-operated siren for drills?

An evacuation signal must sound different from the period bell, or children will not react. It must also work when the power has tripped, which is common in a real fire. The HSR-1K is cranked by hand, so it needs no electricity, and its listing gives a range of up to 1 km. Keep it near the guard cabin or staff room and train two staff members to use it.

Fire alarm: what is in the AGNI kit?

The kit includes a control panel, a manual call point, a smoke sensor and a fire alarm siren, per its listing. The panel watches the connected devices and sounds the alarm. The manual call point lets anyone raise the alarm by hand. For a school, plan a manual call point near every staircase and exit and a hooter on each floor. The same range offers a manual call point at ₹499 and an AGNI 24V wall hooter at ₹599. Ask us to check how many your panel can take. Our fire alarm basics guide explains panels, detectors and zones, and the fire extinguisher price guide covers sizes.
