Buying a Wi-Fi GSM Alarm From India for Use Abroad: Network, App and Frequency Checks
Short answer: a Wi-Fi GSM alarm bought in India will only send SMS and call alerts abroad if your country still runs the mobile network type the panel uses, so check first whether the model is 2G or 4G and confirm that network with your local operator. Then check that the app (Tuya or Smart Life on most of our panels) is available in your country, that your router offers 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and that 433 MHz wireless sensors are allowed where you live. Our panels cost ₹4,949 to ₹28,000 at Indian retail prices; the ACJ-1008 is the model whose listing states 4G GSM plus a wired network connection.
How does a Wi-Fi GSM alarm send alerts?
The panel talks to wireless door, motion and smoke sensors by radio. When a sensor triggers, the panel sounds its siren and sends alerts two ways: over the internet to an app on your phone (through Wi-Fi or a wired network), and over the mobile network by SMS or voice call using a SIM card in the panel. The mobile route is the backup that keeps working if the internet or Wi-Fi drops, which is exactly why it matters which mobile network the panel supports. For a fuller explanation, see our Wi-Fi + GSM alarm guide.

How to check an alarm for use abroad
- Find the network type. Read the listing for 2G, 4G or plain GSM. The ACJ-405 listing says Wi-Fi and 2G, and the Combo-CN295 listing says Wi-Fi, 2G and GSM. The ACJ-1008 listing says 4G GSM. Where a listing only says GSM, ask us which network type and bands the panel supports.
- Ask your mobile operator. Several countries have switched off their 2G networks, and others are doing so. A 2G-only panel cannot send SMS or call alerts where there is no 2G service. Confirm with your local operator that the network type and band are available at the site.
- Test a local SIM. Make sure a local SIM can make calls and send SMS from the panel to the numbers you will programme. Most panels store about 5 alert numbers (the ACJ-402, ACJ-405 and ACJ-407 listings each mention 5).
- Check Wi-Fi. The ACJ-390 listing states 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Make sure the site router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz network, or use the ACJ-1008's wired network connection.
- Check the app. Most panels use Tuya or Smart Life. Confirm the app is available in your country's app store before ordering.
- Check sensor frequency. Our wireless sensors such as the MCT-43 work at 433 MHz, and the ACJ-1008 listing states 433 MHz / 868 MHz. Radio rules differ by country, so check your local radio rules, and buy all sensors on the same frequency as the panel.
- Check power. The ACJ-400 listing states DC 12 V with a power adapter included, and the ACJ-1008 states 12 V DC. If the included adapter does not suit your mains, use a local 12 V DC adapter of the correct rating and polarity, and check your local wiring rules.
- Check language. The ACJ-402 listings mention 11 system languages. The ACJ-407 listing names language options including English, German, Polish, Italian, French, Russian and Spanish. If voice prompts or menus in a particular language matter, ask before ordering.
Example: a villa alarm on 4G
For a site where 2G is not available, the ACJ-1008 is the panel whose listing states 4G GSM. It comes with 1 wireless PIR motion sensor, 1 door and window sensor, 2 remotes and 2 RFID key tags. A villa with four doors and two open-plan areas might need:
- 1 x ACJ-1008 panel kit: ₹28,000
- 3 x door and window sensors for ACJ-1008 at ₹2,200: ₹6,600
- 1 x wireless PIR motion sensor for ACJ-1008: ₹2,800
Total at website prices: ₹37,400, covering 4 doors and 2 motion zones. The door sensor listing says it is only surely compatible with the ACJ-1008, so keep extra sensors to the ones listed for this panel. The ACJ-1008 listing also states a 7.4 V, 2000 mAh backup battery with up to 8 hours of standby and support for SIA, DCS, ADM-CID and OTAP alarm protocols, which matters if you plan to connect it to a monitoring service; confirm compatibility with your provider.
What if 2G is still available where I live?
Then the lower-priced panels are options, as long as your operator confirms 2G coverage at the site and you are comfortable that the service may be switched off later. A panel that also has Wi-Fi keeps sending app alerts over the internet even without the GSM route. For a deeper comparison of the two alert paths, read the GSM vs Wi-Fi burglar alarm guide.
