Wi-Fi + GSM Home Security Alarm: How It Works and What to Buy
A Wi-Fi + GSM security alarm watches your doors, windows and rooms and alerts you on your phone the moment something is wrong — with a loud siren on site to scare intruders away. Wireless systems need no wiring through walls, so they suit homes, shops and offices alike.
How it works
- Control panel – the brain. Arms and disarms the system and connects over Wi-Fi and/or a SIM card (GSM).
- Sensors – detect a door opening, movement or a shutter being lifted, and signal the panel wirelessly.
- Siren – sounds loudly when the alarm triggers.
- Alerts – app notifications and, with GSM, automatic calls/SMS to your numbers even when the internet is down.
Which sensors do you need?
| Sensor | Where to use |
|---|---|
| Door/window magnetic sensor | Every entry door and accessible window |
| PIR motion sensor | Halls, corridors, cash counters; covers a whole room |
| Rolling shutter sensor | Shop and godown shutters |
| Vibration sensor | Walls, safes and lockers |
| Smoke detector | Kitchens, stores, electrical rooms |
| Panic button / remote | Bedside, cash counter, elderly family members |
Tip: a typical 2–3 BHK home starts with the panel, 3–5 door/window sensors, 1–2 motion sensors and the siren. Add more sensors any time.
Wi-Fi only, or Wi-Fi + GSM?
Wi-Fi gives you app control and notifications. Adding GSM (a SIM card in the panel) means the system can still call and SMS you if the Wi-Fi or power router goes down — important for shops and empty homes.
Outdoor and perimeter protection
For boundary walls, farms and factory perimeters, infrared beam sensors raise the alarm before an intruder reaches the building. See our perimeter security range.
Frequently asked questions
Do wireless sensors need batteries?
Yes, most wireless sensors run on small batteries that last a long time; the panel warns you when one is low on many models.
Will it work without internet?
With a GSM panel and an active SIM card, yes — it calls and sends SMS without internet.
Can I control it from my phone?
Yes, Wi-Fi panels use a mobile app to arm, disarm and receive alerts.
