Wiring diagram
Installation steps
- Choose the side: the magnet goes under the top of the door frame on the secure (inside) side, near the free edge of the door, and the steel armature plate goes on the door.
- For a door that opens away from the frame (in-swing), fix the L bracket on the frame for the magnet and the Z bracket on the door for the armature plate. For an out-swing door the brackets are usually not needed.
- Fix the armature plate with its rubber washers so it can rock slightly and sit flat against the magnet face when the door closes.
- Fix the exit button inside, beside the door, at a comfortable hand height.
- Mount the PK-80 supply indoors near the door, on a dry wall away from water, where you can reach it later. Mains wiring must be done by a qualified electrician with the power switched off.
- Run 4 core cable from the supply to the lock and to the exit button. Connect the wires exactly as in the wiring diagram, and check polarity twice before switching on.
- Fit a 1N4007 diode across the two lock wires (stripe towards +12 V) unless the lock already has one. It stops the voltage spike from the magnet resetting other devices.
- Set the door-open time on the PK-80 (adjustable from 0 to 15 seconds) so people have enough time to pass.
- Test: switch on and the door should hold. Press the exit button and the door should release for the set time. Switch the power off and the door should release (fail-safe).
- On escape routes, local fire rules may require an emergency break-glass unit that cuts power to the lock. It is not included in this kit.

Frequently asked questions
Which doors does this kit suit?
Single wooden, metal or framed glass doors. Use the Z and L brackets when the door opens away from the frame.
How does the door open from inside?
Press the SSW-44 exit button. The PK-80 cuts power to the lock for the door-open time you set, from 0 to 15 seconds.
What happens in a power cut?
The EM-605 is fail-safe: it holds only while powered, so the door releases when power is lost.
Can I add a card reader or keypad later?
Yes. The lock is wired through a 12 V supply, so a standard 12 V access reader can be added later, wired through its COM and NC relay contacts.
What is the holding force?
600 lbs, about 280 kg, as listed for the EM-605.
What mains voltage does the supply need?
The PK-80 is listed for AC 110 to 240 V input, 50 to 60 Hz.
