Electronic Door Lock for a House Main Gate: How Remote and Mobile App Locks Work
An electronic lock for the main gate lets you open the gate with a remote, a switch inside the house, or a mobile app — without walking out to unlock it. It is one of the most popular upgrades for Indian homes with metal gates, especially for elderly parents, rainy days and late-night arrivals.
How it works
A typical kit has four parts:
- Electronic rim lock – mounted on the gate. It works like a normal lock with keys, but has an electric coil that releases the latch when it gets a short pulse of power.
- Power supply / controller – kept indoors or in a protected box. It converts mains power to the low voltage the lock needs.
- Remote receiver – lets wireless remotes trigger the lock. Wi-Fi controllers add mobile app control so you can open the gate from anywhere.
- Remotes and/or a wired switch – press to open.

Inward or outward opening gate?

Installation tips
- Keep the power supply and receiver indoors or in a weather-protected box.
- Use good-quality cable between the supply and the lock; long thin wires reduce the power reaching the coil.
- The lock still opens with its keys, so you are never locked out during a power cut.
- Many gates also have an audio or video door phone; some kits let you open the gate from the indoor monitor.
Frequently asked questions
Does the gate open if the power goes off?
The lock stays locked and can be opened with its key. Remote and app opening need power, so a small UPS or inverter backup is useful.
Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. Extra remotes can be paired with the receiver. Ask us for the matching remote model.
Can it work with my video door phone?
