Office Security Checklist: 12 Things to Set Up Before Move-In
Short answer: before you move into a new office, set up 12 things: card access on the main door with an emergency release, extra key tags, an attendance machine, a lock on the records room, an intercom with phones and cable, cameras, an after-hours alarm with a panic button, smoke alarms, extinguishers, drawer locks and a small rack for the network. For a 20-person office, the products below come to about ₹66,000 at our prices. All prices are our live website prices, include GST, and delivery across India is free.
The reason to do this before move-in is simple. Cables for door locks, phones and cameras are easy to run when the walls are bare and the false ceiling is open. Once desks, partitions and carpet are in, every wire becomes a surface patch or a delay.
The 12-point office move-in checklist
- Card or PIN access on the main door. Most offices have a toughened glass front door. An EM lock with a U bracket is made for glass doors, and a reader outside opens it by tag or PIN.
- An emergency door release. A break glass switch next to the door cuts power to the EM lock if the reader or exit button fails. Fit it at the same time as the lock.
- Enough key tags for every staff member, plus spares for new joiners.
- An attendance machine. Fix it near the entrance at a comfortable height, with a power point and network cable or Wi-Fi.
- A lock on the records or server room. Accounts files, the router and the camera recorder should not be open to everyone.
- An intercom between desks. An EPABX with phones lets reception transfer calls and staff call each other free.
- Telephone cable to every desk. Run it now, inside conduit, before the partitions go up.
- Cameras on the entrance, reception and work area. Not in washrooms. Put them on a power point that stays on after hours.
- An after-hours intrusion alarm. A GSM and Wi-Fi panel with a door sensor and a motion sensor calls you if someone enters at night.
- A panic button at reception, linked to the same alarm panel.
- Smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Offices run many chargers, UPS units and extension boards. Smoke alarms in the work area and server room, and an extinguisher near the exit and the electrical panel.
- Drawer locks and a network rack. Lockable drawers for HR and accounts, and a wall rack that keeps the router, switch and recorder tidy and locked.

What should be wired before the interiors are done?
- Main door: a cable from the lock position on the door frame to the reader outside, the exit button inside, the break glass switch and the K80 power supply. Plan a power socket near the supply.
- Records room door: the same set of cables for the drop bolt kit.
- Attendance machine: a power socket and a network point at the entrance wall.
- EPABX: one telephone cable run from the exchange position to each desk, and the landline brought to the same spot. Each extension needs its own pair.
- Cameras: a power point at each camera position, ideally on the UPS or inverter circuit.
The alarm sensors, panic button and smoke alarms are wireless and can go up after the interiors are finished.
Which lock goes on which door?
For a frameless or framed toughened glass door, use an EM lock with a U bracket, as in the CN41 kit. For a wooden or aluminium door, a drop bolt that throws a pin into the frame, as in the CN20 kit, is a neat choice. An EM lock releases when power is cut, so keep the K80 supply on backup power. Read our glass door lock guide and the door access control price guide for more kits.
Attendance and intercom: quick notes
The S-FB5K listing gives a face capacity of 1,000, a 600 DPI optical fingerprint sensor, ID card support, TCP/IP, and support for access control. That is plenty for a 20-person office with room to grow. For other models, see the attendance machine price guide. The CCL 108 in the CN115 kit takes one landline and 8 extensions; for a bigger team, the EPABX price guide lists every size.

FAQ
What security does a small office need?
Card or PIN access on the main door with an emergency release, an attendance machine, cameras at the entrance and work area, an after-hours alarm, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Those core items cost ₹33,494 in our list for a 20-person office.
How much does office security cost in India?
Our full 12-point list for a 20-person office, including an EPABX with 8 phones, drawer locks and a network rack, costs ₹65,988 at current prices. Installation, conduit and network cable are extra.
Which access control is best for an office glass door?
An EM lock with a U bracket and an RFID or PIN reader, such as the Combo-CN41 at ₹5,450. Add a GBS-44 break glass release for emergencies.
Do I need an emergency release with an EM lock?
Yes. A break glass switch lets people inside cut power to the lock and leave if the reader or exit button fails. It is a basic fire safety step for any EM-locked door.
Should the attendance machine be face or fingerprint?
Face is faster and touch-free; fingerprint is a good backup. The SecureEye S-FB5K does both, and its listing gives 1,000 face users.
What should I wire before moving into a new office?
Door lock cables, telephone cable to every desk, network points for the attendance machine and cameras, and power points at each camera position. Wireless alarm sensors can be added later.
