Wi-Fi Access Control With a Mobile App: Remote Unlock and Temporary Codes
Short answer: Wi-Fi access control lets you unlock a door from your phone, from anywhere with internet, by adding a Wi-Fi relay to a normal access control kit. On our store the TYP-12 Wi-Fi relay costs ₹1,499 on its own, an EM lock with app and remote is ₹3,999, and complete card or fingerprint kits with Wi-Fi start at ₹7,050, with most under ₹9,500. Be aware that none of our current Wi-Fi access listings state temporary or one-time passcodes; the practical ways to give visitors short-term access are below.
How does Wi-Fi access control work?
Most app-controlled doors on our store use the same simple idea. The door has its usual parts: a reader or keypad, an electric lock, an exit button and a 12 V power supply. A small Wi-Fi relay, the TYP-12, is wired into the lock circuit alongside them. When you tap the switch in the Smart Life (Tuya) app, the relay closes for a moment, the lock gets its release pulse and the door opens, exactly as if someone had pressed the exit button.
Because the relay sits beside the reader rather than replacing it, cards, PINs, fingerprints and the exit button keep working as before. The app is an extra way in, not the only way.
What can you do from the app?
These are the features our listings actually state for the TYP-12 Wi-Fi relay used in the kits:
- Unlock from anywhere. The Smart Life app on Android or iOS switches the relay from anywhere with internet.
- Share with family or staff. Control can be shared with other people on their own phones. The Combo-CN111 gate lock kit states up to 15 members in the app.
- Remote control as backup. The TYP-12 has a built-in 433 MHz receiver, and the listing states the remote works even when the internet is down.
- Voice control. It links to Amazon Alexa and Google Home through the Smart Life account.
- Timers and schedules. You can set it to switch at fixed times.
- Inching mode for locks. A short pulse instead of staying on. The CN111 listing advises keeping Inching on at 1 second so the lock coil gets only a short pulse.
Can I send temporary codes to visitors?
Not as a built-in app feature on our current range. Some smart locks elsewhere generate one-time or time-limited PINs from the app, but none of the Wi-Fi access products we sell list that, so we will not promise it. What you can do instead:
- Open the door for them remotely. When a visitor, courier or maid arrives, tap unlock in the app. This is the most common use.
- Add a PIN user and delete it later. Keypads such as the WP-25 are programmed fully from the keypad and support PIN users, so you can add a PIN for the week and remove it afterwards.
- Share app access, then remove it. For a contractor or house-sitter, share control in Smart Life and stop sharing when the job ends.
- Hand over a spare card or tag. Cards can be deleted from the reader if they are not returned.
What do you need before buying?
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at the door. The CN111 listing states 5 GHz is not supported. Check the signal on your phone where the relay will sit.
- Power near the door. The TYP-12 runs on 7 to 32 V DC or AC, or 5 V USB, so it can share the lock's 12 V supply.
- A lock that releases on a pulse. EM locks, drop bolts, strikes and rim locks all work this way.
- An exit button inside. The app is not a substitute for a free way out.
How to add app control to a door you already have
- Wire the power. Connect the TYP-12 power input to your 12 V supply, with mains switched off.
- Wire the relay. Connect the relay output in parallel with the existing exit button, so a relay click acts like a button press. Follow the diagram on the listing.
- Add it in Smart Life. Open the app, tap +, and connect it to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Set Inching mode. Set a short pulse so the lock only gets a brief release signal.
- Pair a remote if you want offline backup, then share the device with family or staff.
The same relay also opens gate motors and runs pumps; see our Wi-Fi relay and GSM gate opener guide.
