What do the terms on Realtime listings mean?
- Face, fingerprint, card, password and combinations: each person can punch by any enrolled method, or you can require two together (for example face plus card) for stricter entry.
- Push data: the machine sends punches to attendance software on its own over the network, so reports update without anyone visiting the machine.
- Wiegand in / out: a standard wiring link to an extra card reader or an access controller, used when you want a reader on the other side of the door.
- 4G optional: a mobile data module is listed as an option for sites with no broadband; ask us about it before ordering.
- Built-in battery: keeps the machine punching through short power cuts. Where a listing does not mention a battery, run the machine on an inverter or UPS.
- Record or log capacity: how many punches the machine stores before old ones must be cleared. Even a 1,00,000 log machine lasts years for a small office.
How to choose a Realtime model
- Count your staff and add room to grow; check the face or fingerprint capacity in the tables.
- Decide face, fingerprint or both. Office staff are fine on fingerprint; labour, kitchens and workshops do better with face.
- Decide how you want reports. USB-only machines are cheapest; Wi-Fi and push data give live reports. See cloud and Wi-Fi attendance machines.
- Door control? Many T and Pro models list access control; pair them with an EM lock kit.
- Protect it. At a gate or semi-open entry, add a metal enclosure; the MC-P17 is made for the Pro 1700.
