RML-8K Electronic Rim Lock: Features, Kits and Who It Suits
Short answer: the RML-8K is a weatherproof 12 V DC electronic rim lock for house main metal gates and doors. On its own (₹3,799) it is just the lock, with a self-locking latch and a 32 mm brass key cylinder; to open it by remote, phone, card or fingerprint you add a supply or reader, or buy it as a ready kit from ₹3,049 (remote) to ₹5,499 (remote plus Wi-Fi app) and ₹7,949 (fingerprint panel). Most homes are best served by a kit, not the bare lock.
This guide explains what the RML-8K does, what is in each box, and which kit fits which household. Every fact below comes from the product listings on our store, and all prices are live website prices that include GST.
What is the RML-8K?
The RML-8K is a surface-mounted rim lock. It fixes on the inside face of a metal gate or door, and its strike goes on the gate frame. From the road side, only the key cylinder shows, so the gate looks the same as one with an ordinary lock.
The listing describes it as weatherproof, with a steel lock body made for outdoor main gates. It runs on 12 V DC. When the lock gets a short pulse of power, the latch pulls back and the gate can be pushed open. When the gate shuts again, the self-locking latch catches the strike by itself, so nobody has to remember to lock it.
The lock-only listing includes the lock with strike, a key cylinder, 8 keys, a cylinder ring, a mounting plate and fixing screws. It states clearly that the power supply, remotes, video door phone, exit switch, cable and installation are not included.
What does the RML-8K do in a power cut?
It stays locked. You open the gate from outside with the key, using the 32 mm brass key cylinder. The kit listings call these computerised keys. When power returns, remote and app opening work again. This is the main reason the RML-8K suits a house gate: a power cut never leaves the gate unlocked, and you are never shut out as long as you carry a key.
Why the lock alone will not open by remote
The RML-8K has no radio receiver or Wi-Fi inside it. Something else has to send it the 12 V pulse. On our store that "something" comes in five forms:
- A remote receiver with an adapter (RR-120143 and DP-04 in Combo-CN59). Cheapest way to open by remote.
- A remote lock supply (PSRM-01 in Combo-CN231). Opens by remote and has an input for a push-button exit switch or the lock output of a video door phone.
- A Wi-Fi controller (TYP-12 in Combo-CN14 and Combo-CN208). Adds the Smart Life app, Alexa and Google Home.
- A Wi-Fi lock supply (PSWF-01 in Combo-CN111). App, voice and remote, plus terminals for an exit switch and a video door phone.
- An access-control reader (SA-32 RFID in Combo-CN211, a fingerprint panel in Combo-CN214 and Combo-CN165). Opens by card, PIN or finger at the gate.
The kit listings also say the lock should only get a short pulse. In the Wi-Fi kits, for example, you keep the Smart Life app's inching timer at 1 second so the lock coil is not left powered.
RML-8K kits compared (NavKar Systems, 27 October 2026)
| Kit | What comes with the RML-8K | Opens by | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Combo-CN59 | RR-120143 receiver, DP-04 12 V adapter, 3 remotes | Remote (80 to 100 m, depending on the area), key | ₹3,049 |
| Combo-CN14 | TYP-12 Wi-Fi controller with 12 V 2 A adapter, 1 remote | Remote, Smart Life app, Alexa, Google Home, key | ₹3,450 |
| Combo-CN231 | PSRM-01 remote lock supply, 3 remotes | Remote, exit switch or door phone (not included), key | ₹3,699 |
| RML-8K lock only | Nothing: lock, strike, cylinder, 8 keys, fitting kit | Key, or your own 12 V supply or controller | ₹3,799 |
| Combo-CN211 | SA-32 RFID reader, 12 V adapter | RFID card or tag, key | ₹3,950 |
| Combo-CN208 | TYP-12 Wi-Fi controller with 12 V 2 A adapter, 3 remotes | Remote, app, Alexa, Google Home, key | ₹4,050 |

| Combo-CN165 | Biometric, RFID and PIN reader, K80 supply, 10 key tags | Fingerprint, tag, PIN, key | ₹6,799 |
| Combo-CN214 | ACWP-BCTT waterproof fingerprint, keypad and card panel (TTLock app, Bluetooth), DP-08 supply | Fingerprint, card, PIN, phone, key | ₹7,949 |
One thing stands out in the table: the lock on its own costs more than the cheapest kits that include it. If you need remote opening at all, a kit is the better buy. The bare lock makes sense when you are replacing a worn-out lock and keeping your old supply, or wiring it to an access-control system you already own.
Which RML-8K kit suits you?
- You only want to open the gate from the car or the balcony: Combo-CN59 (₹3,049). Three remotes, pre-paired with the receiver, and the receiver input also takes a wired push button.
- You want a bell-push style switch inside, or plan to add a video door phone later: Combo-CN231 (₹3,699). The PSRM-01 supply has the input for both. You can pair up to 20 remotes by pressing ADD on the supply and then a remote key.
- You want to let in a maid, cook or delivery person while you are at office: Combo-CN14 (₹3,450) with one remote, or Combo-CN208 (₹4,050) with three. Both need 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi; 5 GHz is not supported.
- Large family, several phones, and a door phone now or later: Combo-CN111 (₹5,499). Up to 15 app members, up to 20 remotes, and terminals for an exit switch and a video door phone outdoor station.
- Children, elderly parents or tenants who should not carry remotes: Combo-CN211 (₹3,950) for cards and tags, or Combo-CN214 (₹7,949) for fingerprint, PIN and card with opening records in the TTLock app.
- Replacing an old lock with the same mounting: the RML-8K lock only (₹3,799), as long as your existing supply gives 12 V DC.

How is the RML-8K fitted?
The listing gives a simple order: fit the lock on the inside face of the gate with the strike on the frame, fix the supply indoors on a dry wall, wire the supply to the lock, then pair the remotes or app. On a metal gate the lock may need a welded plate, and the listing recommends a trained electrician for the wiring. Keep the supply, adapter and receiver indoors or in a weatherproof box; only the lock itself is built for the outdoors.

FAQ
Does the RML-8K come with remotes?
No. The lock-only listing (₹3,799) has no supply and no remotes. Kits such as Combo-CN59 (₹3,049) and Combo-CN231 (₹3,699) add a receiver or supply and 3 remotes.
Is the RML-8K a biometric lock?
No. It is an electric rim lock. It opens by fingerprint only when wired to a reader, as in Combo-CN165 (₹6,799) or Combo-CN214 (₹7,949).
Can I use the RML-8K on a wooden door?
The RML-8K listings describe it mainly for house main metal gates and doors, and say rim locks mount on most metal and wooden gates. For a wooden main door, the motorised locks in the electronic rim locks collection are also worth a look; send us a photo on WhatsApp if unsure.
Will the remote work without internet?
Yes. The listings state the remotes talk to the receiver directly by radio, so they need no Wi-Fi or internet. Only app and voice control need Wi-Fi.
How many remotes can I pair with an RML-8K kit?
The kit listings say 3 remotes come in the box and up to 20 compatible remotes can be paired. The TYP-12 kits come with 1 to 3 remotes depending on the kit.
What voltage does the RML-8K need?
12 V DC, given only as a short pulse when opening. Never leave the lock powered continuously.
